Dr. Yoon leads the Conservation Physiology and Aquaculture Lab at the University of New England. His work focuses on how animals respond to environmental stressors (temperature, salinity, oxygen, and emerging contaminants) and how these mechanisms shape resilience in changing oceans. He works across comparative animal physiology, aquaculture, and data-driven analysis to bridge basic science with applied systems. Outside the lab, he enjoys time with his family, reading philosophy, and taking long walks.
Colby Peters will be the first master’s student of Marine Biology to come out of the CPA lab, with an expected defense date of October 2025. Her work focuses on the behavioral and metabolic effects of heat waves on an invasive intertidal shrimp species in the Gulf of Maine. Out of the lab you can catch Colby enjoying photography and time with friends.
Jessie Maguire is a master’s student studying Marine Sciences and a graduate research assistant in the CPA lab. Her research interests include but are not limited to studying the ecology and physiology of various fish species in New England under changing environmental conditions. When she is not in the lab or in the field, you can find her swimming at the beach, working out, or drawing!
Ellie Tracy is a 4+1 bachelor’s and master’s student of Marine Sciences with interests in ecotoxicology, physiology, and anthropogenic impacts. Her current research is focused on understanding the effects of pharmaceutical micropollution on the glucose metabolism of invertebrates, and she hopes to continue investigating chemical pollutants in her future career. In her free time, she’ll usually be on an exciting hike or working on her paintings!
Caleb Poulin is a senior undergraduate researcher, with a major in marine science and a minor in aquaculture & aquarium science, here at the University of New England. My research interests include but are not limited to fish and invertebrate biology and conservation. Outside of school he enjoys reading, music, and fishing.
Malachi Witthoeft is an undergraduate research assistant with a passion for learning. He is particularly interested in areas of research involving behavior, physiology and blood hormones in fish, but is interested in broadening his research interests. He spends his free time playing video games or enjoying the outdoors.
My name is Franco Leehive, I am a sophomore here at the University of New England studying Aquaculture & Aquarium Science with a minor in GIS. I am very interested in metabolism and respirometry work involving both invertebrates and vertebrates. I spend most of my free time playing guitar, video games or being in nature.
My name is Kathie Fuller and I’m a Sophomore and Marine Biology major here at UNE. I am also the AALSO club secretary, and I am currently interested in conservation research. I enjoy crocheting, crafting, and exploring nature whenever I can.
My name is Faith Santiago. I am a sophomore at UNE, and my major is oceanography. I am interested in climate change and aquaculture research. Additionally, I am the treasurer of the AALSO club here on campus. In my free time, I like to go rock climbing and make friendship bracelets.
I'm Cat Conroy a Senior undergraduate majoring in marine science currently working as a lab technician in CAP lab! Mainly I will be assisting with the oyster aquaculture project in MSC 121, but I will be trying to help out wherever I can. I have previous marine experience from doing an internship at Explore the Ocean World Oceanarium, located in Hampton, NH, for two summers. This internship mainly focused on teaching basic animal handling skills as well as educating the public about the marine world. I am especially interested in working on the oyster aquaculture project as mollusks are some of my favorite marine organisms! I think this is because I feel they are sometimes the underdogs of the marine world despite having so many research and commercial applications. Besides marine science, I am very involved with gaming, tending to my various house plants, and doing art. I enjoy making art so much that I decided to take it on as a minor on top of my aquaculture & aquarium science minor. I am really excited to work in this lab alongside my peers and Dr. Yoon, here's to a good year of CPA research!
My name is Lily DeSpirito, I am a junior studying marine biology with a minor in Aquaculture and Aquarium Sciences. I am interested in working with fish to determine the direct impact climate change has on them as well as marine organism rehabilitation. I recently received my PADI Scuba certification through UNE and in my free time I enjoy hiking, doing arts and crafts, and spending time with my friends and family.
My name is Christina Eiler, and I am a junior here at UNE. I am majoring in Aquaculture, Aquaponics, and Aquarium Science with a minor in Animal Behavior. I am interested in metabolism and physiology research, as well as system maintenance and design. Additionally, I am the social media manager for Art Club and Cru Ministries, and the vice president for Book Club here on campus. In my free time, I enjoy art, playing video games, and tending to my jungle of plants!
Eli is a Junior majoring in Marine Science with a concentration in Marine Biology. He's an undergraduate research assistant in the CPA lab and is most interested in fish conservation and physiology research. In his free time, you can find him playing the drums, snowboarding, wading in tidepools, or learning about dinosaurs.
